The Joe Quinn Award was first presented in 1977; the award is named after Joe Quinn, former high school sports Editor for the Cincinnati Post from 1937 to 1976.
Joe loved High School Sports and did everything he could to promote High School Sports. He covered wins and losses, agonies and ecstasies of interscholastic sports with deep respect for all involved. Through his many contacts and recommendations, Joe helped many young men obtain the opportunity to further their education or get a start in the working world.
This scholar athlete award is the top award the Greater Catholic League presents to any athlete. Each of the league schools is permitted to nominate one (1) student athlete to represent their athletic program. The award is based on a point system that is weighted 75% toward academics and extracurricular activities and 25% toward the participation in varsity athletics.
The one student athlete scoring the highest total points is deemed to be the winner of the award, if more than one (1) student scores the same amount of points, duplicate awards are presented. Each student nominated for the award will receive a runner up plaque to acknowledge this outstanding achievements.
